The LeMoyne Community Center has afforded me an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the youth in Washington County. Over the past 6 years, I have worked with students on a weekly basis, especially during the Homework and More Program. I have also volunteered in the Summer Camp Challenge several years.

I am able to share my love of reading and learning with students in grades kindergarten through middle school. I have learned so much as I have sought to teach at LeMoyne, especially as we explore together elements of Black History. I have had the joy of learning about the written and oral traditions that have made up the fabric of the African American experience in our culture.

More importantly I have learned what we (staff and volunteers) all have in common! That we all want to see the students in our schools succeed and thrive as they learn the skills needed. That we (staff, volunteers, and students) all want to be encouraged and treated with respect and dignity. And that we can accomplish these goals by working hard together.

My life is richer because of the people I have worked alongside and through the students I have met at the LeMoyne Community Center.
