You get up every morning and you probably have something for breakfast.  Somewhere around noon you grab something for lunch.  Dinnertime?  No problem- you feed your family.  You know what it is like to feel full.

Some people don’t live like that.  For some, every meal is a struggle, every meal represents an urgent need.  Every day.  Every meal.  Some women look at their hungry kids and feel so helpless, they just sit down and cry.

There are wonderful people in our area who understand and help stem those tears, meets those needs.

Members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, along with the Greater Washington County Food Bank, hosted their monthly outreach event at the Canonsburg Armory Youth Center.  It wasn’t Thanksgiving, but for more than thirty hungry adults and children, it felt like it.

The menu consisted of oven roasted turkey, stuffing, green beans, rolls, gravy and cranberry sauce.  The tables were set for a sit-down family-style meal to be shared by all.  Plates of bounty were passed around along with lively conversation.

“This is just like Thanksgiving!” and “Thanksgiving in April!!! WOW!” were just some of the remarks the children made.  There was so much excitement in the air!

The children were appreciative and so very thankful.  One child shared that she never had stuffing before, another had never tasted cranberry sauce.  The St. Thomas “kitchen staff” made three extra boxes of stuffing so everyone went home feeling full, and for some, it was an unusual feeling.

After a large assortment of cookies for dessert, one by one, each attendee cleared their own place, and thanked all the volunteers.  The room was filled with many smiles, full tummies and very thankful hearts!  Bountiful blessings, indeed!
